THINKING OF WRITING AN ARTICLE, or sending a photo or work of art?
Inspiring articles, poetry, photos and original art are all welcome. At this time, articles are accepted only from the regular advertisers, or special event advertisers, that we promote, and also from others who do not receive income from holistic health/lifestyle activities in the Central PA area. Unlike some other publications, we don’t charge for articles, and we don’t print unlabeled advertorials that look like articles, either.
ARTICLE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
- The article must be educational in nature, not advertisement for your practice or business. Of course you will reap advertising benefit by the simple inclusion of your name and business or practice. We cannot print articles about your product.
- Articles can be no more than 1100 words, and our preference is for pieces of about 750 words. MS Word software provides a word count feature.
- Please send your article through email. If you do not have MS Word, please copy and paste the article right into the email.
- Please do NOT add indents to your paragraphs. Simply place an extra space after your paragraphs.
- Expect that articles will be edited for clarity, size, etc.. You are welcome to suggest a title, but the editor may select a different one. If you want to discuss an idea for an article, please contact us.
- We cannot guarantee that all articles will be published.
- If you have a picture to suggest to accompany your article, please see our ART SUBMISSION GUIDELINES below.
- The deadline to receive articles is the first of the month prior to month of publication. However, articles are most appreciated when received by the fifteenth of the month, two months before publication. For instance, the Summer/May issue articles should be sent by March 15, if possible, and must be received by April 1.
ART SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Inspiring art is welcome! Please send your art as an electronic file submitted via email or on CD, accompanied by an explanation about the art, a short bio and your contact information.
Acceptable file types are PDF (set to hi-resolution—"press-ready"), JPG or TIF (2400 x 3600 pixels—8"x10" at 300 dpi).
Because the magazine is on newsprint, there are special "web" press considerations when prepping your artwork:
- If a file is sent in RGB format, the printer converts it to CMYK or B&W (grayscale) accordingly. When this happens, colors tend to get darker. It is best to make sure all color images (or ads) are set to CMYK and B&W images (or ads) are set to grayscale before submitting (including any/all embedded files).
- With newsprint printing there is less of a color range than "normal" hi-res printing. Extremely light colors and dark colors will become even lighter and darker than intended due to diminishing dots or dot gain.
- B&W files should have a grayscale range between 20% and 80% to avoid diminishing dots and dot gain.
- To avoid over-saturation in your color images, be sure the total ink coverage is set to a maximum of 260% (i.e. 40C, 50M, 80Y, 40K = 210%). For more detailed instructions, visit our printer's website: www.enterpe.com/cp/specs.php – once there click on "Checks and Procedures For Process Color."
