Philosophically Speaking
by Carol Vracarich, Editor and Publisher

Holistic, wholistic, alternative, complementary, integrative, mind-body-spirit: the catchwords are many, but the message is the same—time for a new way of living. It’s not that the old way has no value. We cannot do without traditional allopathic medicine’s techniques if we have a broken bone, for instance. But perhaps we might have prevented the broken bone, in the first place, through greater attention to our nutrition. Or, perhaps had we been more in tune with our inner knowing, we would not have moved in a way which resulted in the broken bone.

The Networker speaks to the integration of old and new. Integrated medicine doctors today combine the so-called traditional allopathic techniques with newer mind-body therapies to provide a new kind of care….or is it the old kind of care? It’s funny that we call today’s allopathic medicine “traditional” and the holistic remedies “new age,” when the reverse is true. Effective therapies and practices like ayurveda, herbology, yoga, acupuncture and energy healing, are finally becoming more accepted today in Central Pennsylvania, yet they are thousands of years old.
